Yeah, some of you guys are out of touch. I know several Witness kids that are pretty active in school activities and organizations. Football, basketball, golf, soccer, band, orchestra, a few student social clubs. I know one Elder's daughter that was president of the "Harmony Taskforce" whatever that is. Some of the older ones mumph about it a little but that's about the extent of it. You never hear a word of any of this from the assembly platform of course.

OK so you can't prove they didn't use the library. That's sort of strange phrasing. Can you prove that they didn't?

Is it OK to kill somebody?
by julien inspeaking entirely from a biblical standpoint:.
let's say you are a devout jw.
your wife and children are being threatened by an intruder with a gun.

The Bible does not forbid killing, it forbids 'unlawful' killing, murder. The Organization's view is that killing in self-defense is not grounds for disfellowshipping but it may mean that you can't have special privileges, depending on the circumstances and the attitude of the congregation. At the very least, the Elders will investigate the matter.
There is a weird statement in one article that you can defend yourself with whatever comes to hand, but not a hand gun. Figure that one out.

Then what is the WT child abuse policy....
by amccullough ini have recently had the misofortune of being involved in the revealing of a child molestation case.
my wife's niece recently came forward about being molested approximately 5 years ago by someone holding responsibilities in her congregation.
my in-laws found out the same day as we did.

amccullough you have to understand that if you have anything remotely positive to say about the WTBS you're required to produce a dozen certified neutral witnesses to attest to the accuracy of your statement. On the other hand, if you have something negative to say about the WTBS then it's immediately accepted by all as Gospel handed down from on high to the accompaniment of an angelic corus. The rules are relatively simple, understanding them will make it much easier for you to get along here.
PS. I've seen exactly the same thing you witnessed on three separate occasions. Unfortunately I have no pictures, court documents or certified neutral witnesses to attest to that statement so I'm sure it will not be accepted.

Utterly indifferent to whether you think I'm a troll or not. I know a phony when I hear one. If the rest of this bunch wants to buy into your nonsense that's OK too. They slurped up Danni's garbage as well.

You guys never learn do you? Lifelong JW but he keeps a copy of the King James by his bedside. This dud makes a public announcement from the platform but he won't tell us what congregation it's in. ( he has a letter as well, why does he need that )That stuff about climbing on the platform with a couple weeks growth of beard is complete nonsense, have you forgotten everything about being a Witness? Look at his 'outline.' "I step down as an Elder of Jehovah's Witnesses, I step down as a Minister of Jehovah's Witnesses." He disassociates himself from the IBSA. Yeesh. Gullible doesn't begin to cover it.

WT Policy- What needs to change?
by silentlambs in1.report matter to the police first.. what does the watchtower say?
note the 97 wt on direction for reporting what is bad:.

I'll agree with 2 and 3. I think 1 is taking very general statements and applying them to a very specific situation and there's a certain amount of distortion in that.
The idea that someone can be charged with slander for going to the police is simply false, I find nothing in the publications that suggests that and in many years as an elder I never heard anything verbally that indicated that was the case. I also never heard of anything like that happening and I've yet to see anyone produce any evidence that it has happened. I accept that individuals may have made such a threat but it is not policy. I don't accept that you have to be 'given' the right to approach the police and I can't find one statement that says you shouldn't approach the police. We know now that Elders have been specifically instructed not to interfere in any way with people going to the police at least as of this year's instructions. So that's clearer for those that it wasn't clear for before. I never have known an Elder that didn't think these matters should go to the police.
One qualification on the "two witnesses" thing. That doesn't mean two witnesses to the same event, it can mean separate witnesses to separate events. Certainly something that wouldn't work for civil authorities in dealing with criminal acts but it is a Biblical principle and I think it works for discipline within a religion. I think it would be unacceptable to take the word of one individual against another and make the assumption that the accuser is always right. I have personally been involved in cases where there was one accuser and the civil authorities determined that they were lying, and later the individuals admitted they were lying. Two witnesses or one, in every case these matters should go to the civil authorities.
Given the climate here I'll probably be accused of supporting and defending molesters. That is not the case. I despise such people and would be quite happy to personally execute any of them that I meet.

Hard To Keep Silent
by Frenchy inwas visiting this week and in his talk he got on the subject of movies.
he began by admitting that he was not familiar with the rating code but that it was wrong for a christian to see an r rated movie.
he stayed at least five minutes on the subject.. afterwards there was the usual, abbreviated wt study and i found paragraph four particularly interesting:.

Frenchy what's very interesting is running a search on "R rated" on the WT CD. You'll find that these guys, COs in particular, go way beyond anything the Organization puts in writing. There's a mention of one individual's progress being slowed because he found out an Elder watched R-rated movies. Doesn't say anything about any consequences for the Elder, in fact I seem to rember the inference is that he continued in his position.
I don't know why COs have such a fixation on this subject but they sure do mention it a lot.
